Do What is Right Not What is Easy Quote

"Do what is right, not what is easy nor what is popular." ― Roy T. Bennett

Roy T. Bennett helps people live a successful and fulfilling life. He inspires people to believe in themselves and their abilities. This quote is taken from his book, The Light in the Heart. "Do what is right, not what is easy nor what is popular" sums up the ideal philosophy of life. It looks simple, but very difficult to practice.

Doing right can be hard but doing easy comes naturally to any living person. The path of least resistance is what most people choose to do.

It is convenient to do what is easy. Doing what is popular is also similar. Doing something unpopular takes lot of courage and conviction.

For ordinary mortals, it is difficult to withstand the criticism of doing something that is unpopular.

The Path of Righteousness

Doing right is often very different from doing what is easy or popular. The Bhagavad Gita talks about what is right as the person's 'Karma'. The popular meaning of karma is some action on the part of the doer. However, the real meaning of karma is doing the right things.

Doing the right things will always bring good and positive results, and there is no need to worry about the consequences. Doing right is the performance of one's karma or doing what is rightful has been described as 'Dharma'.

How 'Doing Easy' Affects You

A person, who is always doing what is easy, is simply taking the easy way out. The easy way leads to easy virtues which destroys the character of the person. It also prevents him from developing his personality and stunts his growth. Nothing great can ever be achieved by doing what is easy.

In a way, it is a sure way to ensure that one does not achieve success. No ambitious person will become what he wants to, if he always indulges in doing what is easy. It will never stretch one's potential or make him capable to reach his goal. In fact whenever you find yourself doing what is easy, it is better to question yourself.

The path of righteousness is always a difficult path full of hindrances, but it will lead you to your destination.

Popular is not always Right

All the inventions and great discoveries by humans have been made when they did what was not popular.

Galileo, Copernicus, Columbus, Newton and all great thinkers and achievers did what they were known by not doing what was popular.

Doing things which are popular is a sign of mediocre life. Human progress has always been brought about by people who refused to do what was popular.

Not doing what is popular does not mean doing wrong, although it is made to appear so. That is why the politicians do popular things, to endear themselves to the people, which is different from doing right things.

Conclusion

Doing the right thing is at the core of personal growth and development. When these are contrary to what is easy or popular, you are on the journey to your own destination.

Acquiring success involves hard work and often doing what others do not do. Shying away from what is hard and not very popular; amounts to surrendering one's individuality.

Following the path of righteousness makes you strong and skillful. Always be yourself and keep pursuing what you were destine for, without worrying if it is not easy or not popular.
