Equestria Girls is a song in My Little Pony Equestria Girls. Twilight Sparkle and her new human friends sing the song in the Canterlot High school cafeteria in order to create unity between the students and boost Twilight's popularity, and to also help everyone forget about Twilight's embarrassing video. It is the only song in the movie performed onscreen by the characters.

Production and re-use

A karaoke version of the song is included under the title "Cafeteria Song" on the Blu-ray and DVD releases of the film. In the third Through the Mirror bonus feature, The Music, Daniel Ingram refers to the song as being called "Cafeteria Song", and in an August 2013 tweet, Ingram refers to the song as "The Cafeteria Song".^[1]

A slightly extended version of the song was published by Hasbro's mylittlepony and mlpequestriagirls YouTube channels respectively on August 27 and 28, 2013, under the title "Magic of Friendship".^{[2] [3]}

Part of the song appears in chapters 3 and 15 of the My Little Pony: Equestria Girls: Rainbow Rocks screenplay novelization of the first eight animated shorts, on page 21 of the My Little Pony: Equestria Girls Holiday Special comic, and in chapter 8 of My Little Pony: Equestria Girls: Sunset Shimmer's Time to Shine.

Music from the song is used in Hasbro's Equestria Girls online games Dash for the Crown and Fall Formal Dance-Off, the latter of which identifies the music as rock. A shorter version of this song and the instrumental track of Time to Come Together can be found in the Hearth's Warming Eve update of Gameloft's mobile game. The Gameloft version uses a different vocal take from Rebecca Shoichet and removes Flash's guitar solos.

The song serves as the second track on the soundtrack album My Little Pony Equestria Girls - Original Motion Picture Soundtrack, under the title Equestria Girls (Cafeteria Song). It also serves as the eleventh track of the My Little Pony 2015 Convention Collection, under the title Cafeteria Song.

An alternate version of the song was released as a free .ZIP download on Walmart.com, in the form of an MP3 file encoded by iTunes 10.5.2 with the title Equestria Girls Song and a creation date of July 23, 2013.^[4] On August 27 of the same year, Daniel Ingram was asked regarding this version of the song "For curiosity sake, Did you have anything to do with this at all?"[sic] and replied "haha no, but pretty neat. Now the question is, will I see any royalties for the tune?"^[5] A mostly live-action music video of a slightly different version of this version of the song, with the title Magic of Friendship, was released through EW.com and published by Hasbro's mlpequestriagirls YouTube channel respectively on August 30 and September 1 of the same year.^{[6] [7]} This music video's crew members include director John Scott^[8] and makeup artist April.^[9]

This version of the song is used in the Equestria Girls dance mini-game of Gameloft's mobile game, under the name EG Stomp.

A rock version with a different rap was released to coincide with the Rainbow Rocks toyline. The second part of this version was released on August 4, 2014, and also features live-action versions of DJ Pon-3 and the Dazzlings as well as contains snippets of Under Our Spell,^[10] Shine Like Rainbows, and the Rainbow Rocks title song. The "Mane Event" poster in the video was designed by MLP comic book artist Tony Fleecs.^[11] Music from the first rock version is used in Hasbro's online game Battle of the Bands.

A new version titled "Rainbooms Remix" was released in February 2015 and contains snippets of Friendship Through the Ages.

A new version titled "Unleash The Magic" was released on August 14, 2015 on the Equestria Girls website as a tie-in for My Little Pony Equestria Girls: Friendship Games and contains snippets of the CHS Rally Song and Unleash the Magic.
